Super noisy iphone 4s photo fix?

I already know the reason the photo is so horrible is due to the fact that there was not enough light. It is a little dark and EXTREMELY noisy (grainy). I have been messing around with the image in Photoshop CS5 and can't seem to fix it. I have tried using the smart sharpen filter as well as using high pass on a lower radius and both of these seem to do the opposite of what I need. Instead of sharpening the image it sharpens the individual grains on the photo and make the quality even worse. Is there any possible way to smooth out this picture?

There's no real fix.

The missing data in your image file is just that… Missing.

The noise is your cell phones camera trying to amplify what little light there's in the scene. The amplification of the small amount of light is what causes the noise.

You can use the tool in Photoshop to reduce the noise, but when you do, you will lose detail in the image itself

There's only so much anti-noise measures can do to remediate excessive noise. The information is simply missing from your image. And even if you could 'smooth' things out, it would have a plasticy smoothness I'm sure you would find as annoying as too much noise.

BTW sharpening is the exact opposite of what you want to do. What sharpening does is create the illusion of sharpness by increasing contrast. Look for a control in your editor that indicates that it is smoothing out the image. Look for "remove noise", or some other tool whose name sounds like it would smooth things out.
