Should the back surface of my iPhone 5 get noticeably warm while charging?
At the moment I'm using both non-standard USB power supply and Lightning cord.
Yes mine did that all the time but I recondmend taking it off charge for a while when it's gets hot
Yes, it's normal for a battery being charged to give off some heat.
As the iPhone 5 has metal body, it'll noticeably get warm, it's normal.

Try leaning the phone on something while it's on charger so the back gets air over it, it will stay cooler and the battery last a bit longer.
- Why does my Iphone 4S get warm and eat battery? So I got my new phone a few days ago and can't help but notice that it gets pretty warm after about 20 minutes of using facebook and the app store. I'm also losing 1% battery every 3-4 minutes while using it. Is this normal?
