Transferring Text Messages To New iPhone?

How do you transfer text messages to a new iPhone? Do you use iCloud? And if it does work, is transferring messages only exclusive to iMessages (blue) and not text messages (green)?

Easy, just connect to computer and in itunes choose the backup option. Then when you get your new iphone, you connect to set it up, it will ask you if you want to copy the old and you say yes. Everything gets copied, photos, messages, contacts, apps, etc. You don't lose anything.

I actually turned on icloud and did a one time backup to get my contacts copied there even though I backup on itunes, contacts was the one thing I didn't want to lose or setup again so I have 2 backups of that.

You may try this phone to phone transfer, it can help you transfer files between iPhones. You just need to connect your two phones to computer through USB cables, then you can drag and drop the messages between the two phones. This software works fairly well for me.

  • Why is my iPhone5 sending some messages as iMessage and others as Text Messages? I understand that messages are sent as Text Messages when there's no signal or poor Wi-Fi connection. However, I'm successfully texting some people using iMessage but others (still iPhone users) as Text messages. The other person will send iMessages and then my responses will be sent as green Text Messages.
  • When I receive text messages with emojis from an iPhone, why do the messages only appear partially? My phone is a "Verizon Samsung Intensity II" slide phone. (Also it's blue but that doesn't matter.) Also, if I'm included in an iPhone group chat (spoiled rich friends, but not snobby…), I get each posted message as a separate message, so I'll end up randomly with 67 unread messages clogging up my inbox.
  • Transferring/Recovering messages on iPhone? I just traded in my old iPhone for a 5S. I thought that when they transferred your data over, that also included messages. Now, a year or two's worth of messages with family/friends is gone. I was wondering if there's any way to get them back? I don't have iCloud, but did have a backup on my computer. However, I don't want all of the data from my old phone, just the messages. Is there any way to get just the messages back?
  • Transferring old iPhone pics into new iPhone? I bought an iPhone 5s yesterday. My old phone was a 4s. I had a lot of important pictures on it. How can I put them all in my new phone's camera roll? I really don't want to download them from iTunes because that will put them in a folder that can only be manipulated from my laptop. I want them in my regular camera roll. Can I use photo stream to send them to my new phone and save them from there? Is there any way I can use iCloud to transfer them?
