Trying to sync iPhone to Macbook as usual, but Macbook now too old?
I'm trying to sync my iPhone to my Macbook which I've been doing for a year successfully. Now it seems my computer is too old and my phone far too updated.
Error message:
"The iPhone 'My iPhone' can't be used because it requires iTunes version 10.6.3 or later. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes."
I tried re-downloading iTunes to my computer but the new iTunes 10.7 version is too new for my computer, Mac OS X 10.5.8. What can I do to have a successful sync besides get a new computer?
Added (1). I updated software on the "Software Update" and it is still a Mac OS X 10.5.8 -- Thanks for the response Duncan!
Added (2).… Right but i still need help with my question!
Have you tried using Software Update from the Apple menu which will update you to the latest version for your computer probably version 10.6.3.
First always be certain to download Apple apps from the Apple website. Next be certain your system meets the specs for they app you want to install. Here are the specs for iTunes 10.6.3:
System Requirements
Macintosh Software
Mac OS X version 10.5.8
Safari 4.0.3 or later
200MB of available disk space
iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match availability may vary by country.
Macintosh Hardware
Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5 or G4 processor and 512MB of RAM
Below is a link to Apple's site specifically to download iTunes version 10.6.3. This version of iTunes 10.6.3 is the last version of iTunes that can be supported by Mac OS 10.5.8.
Per the specs for iTunes 10.7 as per below specs for 10.7 require Mac OS 10.6.8:
Macintosh System Requirements
▪ Mac computer with an Intel Core processor and 512MB of RAM
▪ OS X version 10.6.8 or later
▪ Safari 4.0.3 or later
▪ 400MB of available disk space
▪ Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store
IF THE IPHONE IS THE LATEST IPHONE AND UPGRADED TO IOS 6 UPGRADING THE MAC OS TO 10.6.8 IS REQUIRED PER THE IPHONE MANUAL WITH IOS 6 (SEE second link, not yelling, trying to emphasize UPGRADE MAC OS IS REQUIRED.)
HOWEVER there's also this at Apple's website regarding IOS 5
According to Apple if the iphone uses IOS version 5.0 requirements are as follows:
Version: 1.0
Post Date: October 12, 2011
Download ID: DL1456
System Requirements
Mac or PC computer with USB 2.0 port
iTunes 10.5
Products compatible with this software update:
iPhone 4S
iPhone 4
iPhone 3GS
iPad 2
iPad
iPod touch (4th generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation)
Note there's NO mention of the latest iPhone 5.
- Why is my iPhone battery draining faster than usual? I have it on for an hour and my iPhone 4s has already lost 20% battery I have turned it on and off in hopes of fixing it but it gets worse and worse and no it isn't abnormally hot
- Why is my Internet slower than usual? I use xfinity Internet and out of the blue my phone gets a tad bit slower is it the modem or my phone? I tried disconnecting reconnecting unplugging Internet and plugging back in I'm on 3G iPhone 4
- Why has my iPhone been using more data than usual? I have a 2GB data plan that i have never overaged on. I moved to a different state for college, and after using my phone for a couple weeks here, i'm already nearing 4GB of data. I'm not using it any differently, just how i did at home. I used 1 GB of data in a period of 7 hours. Could someone please explain how this is possible? I have spoken to Verizon and Apple, who both were of no assistance. I have fetch completely off, and location services off as well.
- My iphone 4s has some chinese/korean letters on the back instead of the usual symbols? I purchased a new iphone 4s sim free unlocked 32 gigs, and on the back panel it has the usual apple logo, Iphone, then designed by Apple in California and then some asian symbols, and then there's a logo something like IC and then KCC-CMM-APA-A1387. I bought it new, it works perfect( it is original) but why is the back panel different from the other iphones?
