Turn off iPhone 5s completely when abroad?
I'm going to Argentina for 3 weeks and I'm taking my iPhone 5s but I plan on turning it completely off. I've read so many horror stories about charges on your bill. I initially planned on turning the roaming off or whatever, but I'm not sure how all that works, so if I turn it off completely will everything be okay? Or do I have to do anything else like remove the sim card.
Remove sim card or just put it on airplane mode.
If the phone is off, it's off. You can't incur roaming charges for a phone that isn't powered.
If you want to keep it on, use airplane mode or just disable roaming.

Arveig is right. Why? Without sim it won't run, but keep turn off cellular data, but you will still be able to use iMessage and web over Wi-Fi. IMessage runs via Apple's servers and not your carrier's. It's the idevice to idevice service that is truly free. So you can use (free) Wi-Fi there and you're good. Best luck.
