Unlock iPhone 4S and use prepaid?

I have a AT&T iPhone 4S and my bill is outrages! I'm planning on getting on a prepaid monthly service with someone & I heard StraightTalk & all kind of other things BUT I would have to unlock my phone. If I get a pay as you go SIM for AT&T (since my phone is a iPhone AT&T) will I still have to unlock it or no?

No you only need to unlock if you change networks. Examples being tmobile, simple, net10, straight talk.

You will not get 3G or 4G service on your device if you do this.

If you get an at&t plan then no but if something else yes you have to unlock

Switch to straight talk, you don't need a unlocked iphonr and you will get 3g.

I do not believe that AT&T's prepaid GoPhone supports the iPhone. I think Straight Talk would be a great fit for you as it does does support the iPhone including the new iPhone5.It would be a part of their Bring Your Own Phone (BYOP) program that let's you bring your own phone.

The way the BYOP program works is that you a purchase a straight talk SIM for $14.99 that makes your phone compatible with Straight Talk (see the link in sources). You would have to unlock your phone. However, most carriers will do this for you if your phone is out of contract. I included another link about other unlocking options.

Straight Talk offers Unlimited Talk, Text and Data for $45 a month. They have received great reviews and Cult of mac called them the "best carrier for the iPhone" a few months ago.

  • When I unlock my iphone can I use a prepaid SIM card when I travel? I live in Germany and a friend sold me her iphone 3gs when her contract was up. She said the phone would be unlocked after a certain date but it hasn't yet. If i do this myself will I be able to use any SIM card? I have 1and1 for phone service and when I travel to the states I get a prepaid SIM from tmobile. Will these work on the iphone too?

My relative sent me an iphone from the US locked under tmobile and the contract was finished and paid already. All they gave me is an unlock code which i freakingly don't know how or where to put it. I tried to follow their instructions to "put the sim card… Etc.restart.etc.complete the set up process.etc." but there's no form or bar to put the code. T_T. Any one has an idea how to use the code?

Like can I use a different SIM ( Not from the US with the same data plan like virgin mobile ) and still use it in the US? Or any unlock in general?
