Virgin iPhone 5s won't activate?

I recently bought a refurbished virgin iphone 5 off ebay as well as a virgin sim card for it also off ebay. I went through the steps online virgins website to activate the iphone 5 and everything went smoothly. However, the phone itself runs into problems when trying to activate, constantly asking me to log into iClould and then failing after saying "activating phone, this may take a few minutes". It is connected to the internet by the way. What gives?

Maybe because it was signed in to the other persons icloud and stayed logged on

Try the easy solution first: try a different Wi-Fi connection to be 100% sure its not your Internet.

Also, make sure you 1) have an active account, 2) are signing into it with the correct info, 3) that you're pushing the right buttons. For example, if your trying to sign in then make sure your not hitting the link to sign up for a new account and vice versa.
