Virgin mobile iphone stolen?

Okay so one of my friends sold me a brand new virgin mobile iphone that was still in the box. I bought it for 300. The thing is his sister told me he just stole it from walmart 3 days ago. Ofcourse i was mind blown and mad. Is there a way i can activate this phone and start a plan or will it not activate since it was stolen. If i can't activate it ill go get my money back from my so called friend.

Can't be activated. Not because it was stolen, but because the phone was not cleared for activation.

It would be a good idea to call AT&T because when i bought my Phone (AT&T Store) they wrote down my serial number and IMEI number so my guess is if anyone tries to reactivate the phone AT&T would have those serial numbers on file.

You can also report its loss at your local police station. Watch the lost & found in your local paper.

For myself, I have installed anti-thief app onto my phone. It will be helpful if my device gets lost, which will send me the SMS, web history, and even social network activities if the people who pick up the phone use my device to contact others. Check it out
