VW Beetle making very loud noise when driving?

I have a 2007 VW Beetles, got 67k miles on it.

The noise came to attention about a week ago, it first started with this deep & loud "hmm" sound when I accelerate or go over 75mph, and seems to ease out if I reduce the speed. I thought it's triggered by going over a certain speed or RPM… But as of yesterday as long as I'm over 40mph it'll make the humming noise along with some rattling sounds coming from the bottom of the car. And it's not getting better by reducing speed or turning. I'm also getting this unpleasant vibrating sensation through the steering wheel and the seat, it feels as if I'm sitting on an iPhone with incoming call…

It could have started a couple weeks ago, but wasn't noticeable until last week. The noise is so loud now that it's giving me a headache, it almost feel as if the car is about to fall apart. D:

Its been a year since the last oil change & general maintenance, about ~6000 miles added. The plastic splash guard on the bottom fell off last winter and got patched back up at the dealership, I don't see it coming off yet by just looking through the bottom of the car. I also changed all 4 tires about 6mo ago.

Any thoughts?

Added (1). Is it safe to keep driving?

Added (2). Another issue that might be related… This doesn't happen often, when I'm coming off a highway/reducing speed with or without stepping on the brakes, the car will tremble (rocks back and forth) once and only once at around 25-30mph. It feels as if I run over a bump or something. Does this sounds like a transmission problem?

Added (3). I've scheduled service for tomorrow… But I do have a 60miles commute between now and the appointment.e_e

Btw, I took it in to see the tremble issue once but since it happens randomly, the mechanics weren't able to replicate the problem. It seemed to have gotten better after the last oil change.

Maybe your cv joints

It may be a bearing,(wheel bearing, bearing hub). One time i reolace all four wheel bearing on a car i had and nothing, it turn out to be the noisy tires with bad threat, try a tire rotation and see if the nois changes, otherwise it can be a bearing, or a broken break pad(not common but possible), good luck

Did you check tire pressure?
That is no mechanical reason at 67k miles unless there has been damage.
Did you hit a curb, lose a wheel weight, etc?
Is one side of the brakes getting hot?
Is a wheel loose?
It could be a wheel bearing, CV joint, or even a ball joint, but not very likely.
Take it in, quick.

Sounds like your wheel bearing, the only reason I say that is that I had the same sound with my 2003 VW Jetta. Get it fixed!

  • Why iPhone s earbud make loud buzzing noise? When I was playing music on my iPhone 5s using its earbud, suddenly it makes a loud buzz (nearly killed my ears). At first, I thought it was my phone, but when I unplugged my earbud, the sound works fine. And then I thought my earbud was the problem but when I tried to restart my iPhone, and plugged in my earbud, it works! Happened for a few times and I still don't know how and why it happened.
  • Why do I do this? I'm very very very tired yet I don't want to sleep? I want to sleep because I'm practically blinking and bobbing my head side to side like a drunken man but I just don't want to sleep. I watch tv or go on Facebook or play on my iPhone. And I'm starting to get dark circles. And as a guy I don't wear. Concealer or whatever
  • What causes the rattling noise in the new iPhone 5 and is it bad it makes this noise? Near the proximity sensor when i shake the phone back and forth something inside rattles and it is beginning to concern me.
  • Remove iphone marks and speaker not very loud? I have an iphone 4 and have had a case with a patterned Back on the inside. Does any one know how I could remove the marks it has left? Also my speaker is a lot quieter than my friends iphone 4 speaker- any ideas on that?
