Water damaged iphone 5, what should I do?
Ok so I was on holiday and my phone went into the sea and was submerged for a good few minutes.
It won't turn on, I'm pretty sure it's completely wrecked and I just wanted to know what I do now? Like if I take it to a phone/ apple store can they recover data or do I literally have to buy a whole new phone
You have to buy a whole new phone anyway. If you don't have an iCloud backup set or an iTunes backup at home then the odds of retrieving anything from the wet phone without power is slim to none. They can't just 'move' your internal storage to another phone shell. Being wet there's no guarantee it won't fry the new one plus it would cost way too much. Ask an Applestore or a local repair shop but the phone will have to have power to get at the info on it. Best luck.
I was once out with my friend and she had dropped her iPhone down the toilet. This was at a party before a football final so she couldn't do anything about it for quite a while. She dropped it around 3 o'clock and we didn't get back till 11 and it still didn't turn on and her flashlight sometimes randomly came on. Anyway, once we got home she put in in a pint of rice(make sure it's fully covered) and left it overnight. It started to work and there was nothing wrong with it, it might still work on your phone depending how long you left it? I'm not sure but I hope this helps in some way.
If you have made backup with iTunes or iCloud in advance, you can extract data from iTunes or iCloud backup. If you haven't, you have to get a new iPhone and say goodbye to your data.
If you had created backup before getting your iPhone to sea, you can read this post to retrieve data from iTunes or iCloud backup. Good luck to you!

- What should I do with a water damaged iPhone 5s? I have the iPhone 5s and today I went swimming with it in my pocket. It was in water for about 10 minutes. What should I do? I love my iPhone so much. I do not want to get a new.
- Water damaged IPhone 4s. Is there hope? Today I idiotically fell into a pool with my iPhone in my pocket. It was submerged for about three seconds and afterward there was no display but it would still vibrate at messages and calls. I shook the water out of it immediately but I couldn't get it in rice for about 20 mins. I took out thr sim card and managed to turn off my phone and I'll let it sit in the rice for 24-48 hours. Is this just a lost cause or is there actually hope in me reviving my "child"
