Water damaged iPhone and no rice?
My iPhone went through a washing machine. It's been a couple of days and because I'm a college kid, I don't exactly keep dry rice in my dorm. I stuck it in easy mac, wrapped it in a coffee filter, and two paper towels. Does anyone know if this will work?
Added (1). When I plugged it into the computer like 5 minutes ago it turned on, but the touch was messed up and I couldn't unlock it or anything. The little guy's fighting for his life.
The best option is to take it to an Apple store to see if they can salvage any information from the phone. Do not turn it on, this may short circuit the phone and fry the components.
You will most likely need a new phone as extensive water damage is almost irreversible.
Honestly, even rice doesn't work - a full washing machine cycle will have severely damaged your iphone - I was lucky to have a friend that fixed mine for only £50 after I gave it a good wash, fairly sure it cost him more, but I digress. Regular warranty will be void, so unless you have accident cover, you will have to pay to get it fixed.
Make sure you don't attempt to turn it on or charge it, this will only further damage its components, don't put it off any more, or it will rust just making things worse (it's probably already rusted).
It sucks, but such is life!
EDIT: Eek! Don't turn it on, turn it back off! Get it to a repair shop or apple store pronto, it's not worth the risk, the more you damage the more money you'll have to cough up.
Rice is a myth. The bottom line is you need to let it dry for a few days, I would put a small fan on it.
- Water damaged IPhone 5s! Been in rice 24hours? It looked much better after being in the rice but now I'm noticing moisture behind the screen. It's like it's creeping in slowly. Is there anything I can do to prevent this getting worse until I can afford to get it fixed?
- My iphone is water damaged, and the incident happened about a month or two ago? So if i were to try to fix it right now by blow drying it and by putting it in rice for a few hours, would there be a chance that it would work?
- I dropped my iphone in water, and I don't have rice? The only thing that seems to be off is that I can't hear the clicking of typing when the sound is on and when I use the volume button, it just says ringer and doesn't show how loud my phone is… Everything else seems to be fine Can I use something besides rice?
- How long should i leave a water damaged iphone in rice? Recently i dropped my Iphone down the toilet, lol only for about 7 seconds before i quickly grabbed it and put it in a bag of rice within 2 minutes it has currently been in there for 24 hours it does look fine but i'm unwilling to turn it on yet, how much longer should i keep it in the bags of rice? ( i have different bags of rice to change if it has to be in for a couple of days)
