Water damaged iphone

Alright ill give you a quick background,
I went to sleep and left a cup of water on my bedside little shelfy-thing along with my iPhone 4s. Sometime in the night i knocked over the cup of water onto my phone and it pooled by the phone. The phone was just far enough into the water i know it got wet. When i woke up (I went to bed around 5:30am i believe and awoke around ten) The phone was turned off and it was wet. The thing that makes me a little more hopefully is i don't generally move around much when i'm sleeping until i'm about to wake up so i'm hoping i knocked it over not long before i woke up. (the phone was almost dead when i went to bed so it may have died before i ever spilled the water on it, i don't know if that would effect anything at all) anyways so i awoke to this disaster and immediately dried it off and went to the store to get rice. I put it in the bag of rice and sealed the bag. I then called verizon to ask the what i should do, they told me to do exactly what i had done and leave it for at least 24 hours and it should work. I left it untouched for 24 hours but when i took it out it didn't turn on or light up when i tried to turn it on and the same when i plugged it in. I read more and people suggested sticking it in the rice longer. I have now left it around 48 more hours and i want to try it again tomorrow afternoon when it will be the full 48 extra. I'm wondering what you guys think the chances are this phone will survive? I'm a broke college student and I'm really hoping it makes it… Also what are the chances if it does survive i will have the messages i received before and after its swim? I had some important messages from work that i really need to get to and i'm stressing a little about when or not they will be there or not! If this does not work is it worth it to buy a water damage revival kit? I've heard of people doing that and it working so i want to know if its worth the 25 bucks. What I'm really wondering is what are the chances it will work from the rice alone and if the rice doesn't work what else can/should i do? Anything possible to save this phone would be great. I know insurance doesn't cover water damage so I'm wondering what i should do.

Those water damage revival kits are often baloney, you can try to pack the phone in a warm desiccant, such as those found in diapers, in an attempt to draw the water out of the phone. The problem is that the phone is often doomed by the time that it gets water inside of it.

I would say the phone has a 5% - 15% chance of surviving the water event. The insurance available through Verizon most certainly covers water damage. The deductible will depend on the model of iPhone that is claimed. Apple Care is the program that does not cover water damage.

  • Water damaged iphone (insurance claim)? I filed a claim with Asurion through verizon, I was required to pay 169$ for a replacement phone. the problem is that troubles me is that the only problem with the phone is that after it dropped in the water, the screen has a drip mark that won't go away, it won't turn off and there are some tones that don't play.other than that it works fine. what I'm asking is if the claim is still legitamate. It's still noticeable damage, but is it claim worthy noticeable damage?
  • Water damaged IPhone 4s. Is there hope? Today I idiotically fell into a pool with my iPhone in my pocket. It was submerged for about three seconds and afterward there was no display but it would still vibrate at messages and calls. I shook the water out of it immediately but I couldn't get it in rice for about 20 mins. I took out thr sim card and managed to turn off my phone and I'll let it sit in the rice for 24-48 hours. Is this just a lost cause or is there actually hope in me reviving my "child"
  • Water damaged iPhone 4g? - 2 So my iphone was on a table by a pool and people splashed on it and it sorta got soaked, its working a little but when you shut it off it turns back on, its in rice it happened about an hour ago what should i do i know people said not to charge it so it doesn't fry but anything else? • My iphone is water damaged, and the incident happened about a month or two ago? So if i were to try to fix it right now by blow drying it and by putting it in rice for a few hours, would there be a chance that it would work?
