You can buy stuff with real money but you honestly don't need to to get through it.
If you do plan to buy from it, you actually keep the amount you buy saved in the game, so if you delete your file and start again you still have the amount you bought initially. (Say you bought 500 gold coins, you use up 400 then buy another 250 and use up 100, if you start a new game, you will start off with the 750 gold coins you bought.
