What are the different types of cameras?

I want to know the difference between all of the cameras and which one is most recommended to a amateur photographer. I have a point and shoot and an iPhone camera so disregard those… I have heard of dSLR compact medium format etc… But I don't know much about those…

Well I'm not sure about film, but in digital there's:

-DSLR (digital single lens reflex) camera

-Bridge camera e.g nikon p520 (look it up)

-Mirrorless interchangable lens camera e.g Panasonic GH2

Surely you don't need to know all of them if all you want to know is what is good for a beginner?

Here are medium format dSLR's.

Here are regular dSLR's.

Here is what I recommend.

I think the best are Sony and Nikon.

There are numerous types of cameras but if you want to learn basic photography, it is generally agreed that you start out using either a fully manual 35mm SLR with 50mm lens (film) or a crop-sensor DSLR (digital) in full manual mode with a 35mm lens.

SLR stands for Single Lens Reflex which basically just means that you can see through the same lens that you're taking the photo with. This makes metering, composing and focusing easier and more accurate than with other types of cameras.

Trying to learn basic principles of photography is nearly impossible on most p&s cameras so you are correct to look for more.

The type of camera isn't really what matters so much as the ability to use it fully manually. This means that you manually select ISO, Shutter, Aperture and Focus yourself. Once you know how to do these things and understand the logic behind doing so, you can operate virtually ANY type of camera ever made.

Best of luck!

  • Two different computers, two different iTunes.can I use the same Apple ID? I have iTunes on my computer that I use for my iPhone, and my mon just got an iPod Touch and wants me to fill it for her. I'm going to use her computer to do this, which currently does not have iTunes. Once I download iTunes, can I use my own Apple ID to download songs and apps onto her iPod? Is it possible to do that without disturbing what's on my phone, or do I have to make a whole new iTunes account for her?
