What camera should I use for recording video?

Any camera's that are affordable please list some great quality affordable cameras that shot better than my cellphone (iPhone 5s)

Camcorders capable of reasonable performance are available for less than $200.

Be sure that whatever you get has an input for an external mic, and also a headphone jack so that you can monitor the sound while recording (use full-size, fully-enclosed headphones).

Define "affordable". After making my list of technical requirements, I just got a Sony HDR-AX2000. It meets the requirements and I can afford it. I can't afford anything from the Canon EOS C100/C300/C500 line, or a Black Magic Design Cinema Cam (not the pocket) or anything from Red or Silicon Imaging.

Flipped from another angle, tell us what is wrong with the video you are getting from your iPhone 5s.

If the video is shaky, use a tripod or other steadying device - same thing will happen with a camcorder if you capture video handheld.

If the video is grainy or pixelated, add light - same thing will happen with a sub-$1,800 camcorder to varying degrees. Poor light causes light amplifiers to turn up causing the video noise. Resolution is to add light.

The HDR-AX2000 is very affordable - when compared to an Arri Alexa or Red Epic…

Do you use a Tripod with a clamp for your smart phone?

Do you have good lighting? (The number 1 cause of poor video and grain is lack of lighting.)

Once you have fixed both of those problems - the Tripod & lights can also be used by your new camcorder.

I like the Canon Vixia RF500. This is $200 at Best Buy. I usually recommend it for YouTubers because:

* It has the important flip-forward screen so you can see how the shot is framed from the front if you are videoing yourself.

* It has a external microphone jack so you can get a HUGE step up in the audio by using a simple $30 self-powered lavilear microphone.

Hope this helps.
