What causes The White Screen of Death on iPhones?

I just had an issue with my iPhone where the screen turned white then, i looked it up and fixed it. I was just wondering what caused it that way i can prevent it next time.

  • White Screen of Death on My IPhone 3GS After Replacing Screen? I recently replaced the cracked screen of my IPhone 3GS. After reassembling it, I got the White Screen of Death. I've tried holding the power button and the home button to try to reboot, but it does not work. The phone seems to still be working normally other than the screen. In fact, it is currently playing music. Does anyone have and suggestions on how to fix this?

I dropped my Samsung Exhibit directly into a cup of water, and immediately removed the battery and put it in a bag of rice overnight, it still works but the screen is super dim, and adjusting the brightness does nothing.
