What do I need to improve my Internet speed on wireless devices?
I'm gonna tell the problem i have and if you could tell me what you would buy to improve it. I have a fast internet speed FIOS Quantum 75/35 mbps. My router is in the basement. When i do the speed tests on wireless devices (macbook and pcs) i get a speed of only about 17/4mbps & for smart phones and tablets 0.82/0.3mbps. However the speed doesn't feel slow on computers, and laptops that are connected wirelessly through Wi-Fi. But smart phones and tables (iPhones, androids, tablets, iPads, ipod touch) are slow with Wi-Fi, the signal is only about 2 bars or 1.
So what would i need to do to fix this? Would the NETGEAR - Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender with Ethernet port help improve the situation, or the Apple Airport Express or signal boosters?
I dn't think i would need the Apple Airport Extreme because i'm not looking for storage or anything i just want my wireless devices to be fast. If you could give me your input on what you would get if you were i
i forgot to mention that i use these devices mostly in the 2nd floor and 1st. Never in the basement.
Added (1). @David E i own an iPhone and the app store does not have WiEye app. Is there any other app i can check out?
Sophia, why don't you call your ISP back and have them install your hardware on your 1st floor. Then you can eliminate a whole floor that you never use (the basement).
Your router has 11 channels. Nearly everyone uses channel 1, 6, or 11. If you have a smart phone, download WiEye and check your area. It shows you what channels you and your neighbors are using. Change yours to an empty one.
You might want to consider running an Ethernet wire up the side of the house from the basement to the attic and put a wireless access point there. Then your 2nd floor will get a better signal.
If your router is Wireless G mode on 2.4Ghz, the fastest theoretical user speed you will ever see is in the 21-22mbps range. You can't get faster than that with G mode. It is a radio technology limit of the so-called 54mbps "link rate" that G mode uses.
If you want faster wireless speeds, you need to go to N mode, and preferably with dual band devices using 5Ghz band
Perform these simple points given below to increase the internet speed:-
1) Reinstall the Adapter.
2) Update Wi-Fi Drivers.
3) Optimize Wi-Fi Internet Settings(must use reliable program RegInOut for it.)
4) Disable Global Auto-Tuning Feature.
5) Uninstall Remote Differential Compression API Support.
6) Clear DNS.
7) Upgrade your Wi-Fi's Antenna.
- What is a device that I can buy to improve my home Wi-Fi to all my devices? My family has 3 labtops, 4 iPhones, and 2 xboxs that all require Wi-Fi. Therefore the connection on all of them aren't great, so what can I buy to improve the speed on all of them? I have an AT&T router.
- What Internet speed do I need? Me and my friend live in an apartment together. We recently moved in and haven't decided what Internet speed we need. We both have Xboxes with Xbox Live and both have iPhones and we use Netflix. We upload and watch YouTube very frequently. What's a speed to run Xbox Live for both of us and be uploading YouTube?
- Laptop gets slow internet connection, yet all my other devices get it at full speed? This never used to be an issue up until a few weeks ago, we had a 60MB connection that was buffed up to 100, my laptop used to download at around 5.5 - 6MB per second, whereas now its between 2 and 2.5, yet my iphone and all other computers in the house still get the full speed. I have checked the drivers which are all up to date, I can't discover the problem, what could be causing this? And how can I go about solving it?
