What is ESN and why do i need it?
So i have an iphone 5 and i want to buy an iphone 4 or 4s to customize it and jailbreak it. I don't need an apple warranty on it and i was looking online on ebay for one but most say bad ESN. I don't think this would matter because i'm planning on unlocking it and using Straighttalk or nothing at all for calling/messaging, since i already have a phone. It is basically a supped up IPOD i want to use it for. So does a bad ESN even matter for what i want to use it for?

The ESN is the phones serial number. As long as you never want to activate the phone ever, a phone with a bad ESN can be used as an Ipod.
Straight Talk will not activate a phone with a bad ESN.

- What is ESN stand for and what does it mean? I'm trying to sell a iphone so i was trying to average out the price.people state bad ESN and stuff like that. So i need to know what it is. And when you answer don't say anything that involves CDMA ensles you identify what that is too.
- What information do I need to check if a verizon iPhone 4 has a clean esn? I'm thinking about buying a sprint iPhone 4 from craigslist, and I was wondering what information I would need on the phone to call up sprint and have them check whether or not it has a clean esn, or how I would go about finding out before I buy it.
- What does it mean if an iPhone has a bad ESN and can I buy it? My iPhone 5s was stolen and Verizon as usual is not taking any pity from anyone nor would they offer me a replacement at a discount so if I want the replacement I would have to buy it at full price. I looked online on ebay and saw some iPhone 5s that were really cheap selling but when I look it says bad ESN. I read somewhere that you can't activate this with your provider is that is the case. Is this true and what exactly is bad ESN on an iPhone?
- Should i buy a bad esn iphone and use it with gsm carrier? I wanna buy myself an iphone 4s from ebay. I live in bosnia and we only have GSM carriers. I noticed that verizon or sprint "bad esn" iphones are much cheaper so, should i buy that phone and unlock it to my network or should i gather more money and buy myself a new factory unlocked one?
