What is the point of buying an iPhone 5 if you can get iOS 6?

People say when you get iOS 6, you get to get all the features an iPhone 5 has, but if thats the case then why do you need an iPhone 5? Wouldn't it just be cheaper to buy a suckish iPod and get iOS 6?

The iPhone 5 has a slightly bigger screen (4 inches over 3.5 inches) and has a 16:9 aspect ratio so you can watch most high definition content without black bars.

Also the obvious one is that the iPhone is… A phone…

The biggest thing is that the hardware inside the iPhone 5 is pretty amazing, much better than any iPod or previous iPhone.

Ipod touches can't call, must be connected to Wi-Fi for internet access, and are pretty much meant for music and fun.iOS 6 is cool, but on an iPod touch it is pretty much the same as all other operating softwares have been, minus the fancy make-over that apple has given to the graphics and menu's. Nobody wants to carry an iPod and a cell phone at the same time, when there's a phone out there that does it both for you.

The iPhone 5 has several hardware improvements.

I think it's because the screen is bigger, and has a better retina display. Other than that, it works roughly the same with iPhone 4S and new iPod Touch 5th Gen (except for phone features).

You make a fair point but the iPhone has a faster chip (A6 not A5), and an iPhone has a built in GPS unlike the iPod and you can't make calls or get 3G on an iPod. Apart from that, yes they are essentially the same with almost exactly the same features.

Nobody's buying the iPhone 5 just to get iOS6. They're getting it because it's newer and flatter and has a longer screen, more powerful CPU and 4G speeds. If all you care about is getting iOS6 (and wanting the latest iOS version seems a weird reason to get the newest device) then by all means stick with an older iPod.

"wouldn't it just be cheaper to buy a suckish iPod and get iOS 6?"

Cheaper to do what? Make phone calls? Browse the web? You'd always be looking for hot spots; you'd also be constantly checking your battery levels because the iPod loses its charge quickly when Wi-Fi is enabled.

Generally the suckish alternatives cost less, so your question doesn't really ask anything.

IOS 6 is the the last reason why I got iphone 5. If you don't understand why then you just know nothing about it at all. Research it so you have some idea.

If you have a iPhone 4S, you can just upgrade it to iOS 6 instead of buying iPhone 5.

but you want to use the new additional features of iOS 6 when you have iPhone 4 or 3GS, you can buy a
iPod Touch 5.

You get some of the software features, such as Facebook integration and Panorama (only for iPhone 4s). The hardware features, such as bigger screen, new design, 4G and faster processor are obviously not included in IOS6 because they are physical components. Have a read on the Apple site to find out all the software features, a link is below.

  • Would it be pointless to get an iphone 5s at this point? I wanted to get a new phone, and would prefer an iphone- quite fond of them. However, I can't afford an iphone 6 at this point. Maybe by my next paycheck I could, but that is beside the point. IPhone 5s is much cheaper, but I also know that after awhile, you can't get apps or anything on older gens which make them kinda useless. I don't know, thoughts?
  • What's the point buying an iphone if I've got the Nexsus 7? I bought it for £150 it does everything an iphone does apart from making calls, in fact it also has a bigger screen so I enjoy it more. I also own a blackberry for calls and text message. I like to text a lot on bbm so yeah what's the point? I should probably wait for the iphone 6.
  • What is the point of Jailbreaking on iOS 8? Okay so I use to be very active in the Jailbreaking world when the iPhone 3gs and the original itouch were out and eventually I got out of the loop and even switched to android for a long time but now I'm back on iPhone, 6 to be specific, and I'm really wandering what is the point of the Jailbreaking in the current time. I'm not critizing it I'm honestly just asking out of curiosity to see if it's worth doing it on my iPhone.
  • Is there much point in buying an iPhone if I have an iPad? I'm getting an upgrade on my mobile contract soon and I've wanted to get an iPhone, but now I have an iPad. It seems that the iPhone and iPad are quite similar so I was just wondering if there's much point in getting the iPhone as I don't want to waste money, really. Also if the BlackBerry Z10 would be any good, but I know how annoying BlackBerrys are…
