What laptop or desktop would you recommend to a college freshman?

I have an hp laptop, an Asus transformer 300t tablet and iPhone 5… Any recommendations, I want to maybe upgrade my laptop to a different one with a more attractive look and better performance.

I would recommend the ASUS zenbook if you want a laptop with both great performance and sleek design. ASUS UX31A would fit the most with your description with the price around 1300$.It has decent processor with moderate gaming. The full HD screen is also great for watching movies.
