What programs should I use to edit a song I recorded?

I play the guitar and I sing. Recently, I bought a handheld recorder that can trasfer recordings of my songs into my laptop into an audio file. What program(s) can I use to edit my music? When I say edit, I mean cut out mistakes, get rid of background noise, etc. I'm looking for a pretty simple program, by the way. I'm not a technical person.

Try Audacity, this is a free software and it allows you to do nearly everything you need for your recordings (i.e. Inputting effects, reducing background noise etc.) It isn't super easy to navigate and seems overwhelming at first, but you can figure it out pretty quickly, probably within an hour. Plus, anything you don't know how to do on Audacity can be solved with a quick Google search, it's a pretty popular program so there's lots of stuff on it.
You could instead use Mixcraft, this is much simpler and more crude but very very easy to use. I'm pretty sure this one is also free.
Also, if you have a Mac (or even an iPhone if you download it from the Apple store) you can use GarageBand; you'll be very surprised at how much you can accomplish on it.

All of these I've used myself, are free and are more or less easy to use.

Try Studio One Artist Edition. Its free and there's plenty of tutorials in YouTube. It is the best one out there.
Later on you can upgrade to more professional versions.
