What to do about my water damaged iPhone 4?

So on Thursday I had soccer practice and my phone got water in it. I could see it in the screen when I hit the home or the lock button and it was very dimly lit. I later noticed that the lights at the top under the screen were going out and there were 2 working while one was flickering. I decided to put it in rice because everyone said that worked. The next day (Friday) the water had gone away a bit but the screen was darker. For some idiotic reason I decided to take my phone out and use it all day which resulted in my screen not working anymore. I'm still recieving texts and what not but I can't see anything.
I don't have my pictures or contacts backed up to iCloud so my question is,
Can I still save my iPhone if I take it to AT&T or will they have me buy a new one? Also, if I do just get a new one will they be able to transfer my contacts and pictures?

Plug the iPhone into the computer and it may pop up on your computer if you don't have a password on it, or you can a new screen off EBay because the screen has been affected by water but if you cab received text messages and that then that means that the iPhone is still working. Get a new Digitizer and LCD and install it and the phone should be working.

AT&T will likely be able to transfer your photos and other data with a new phone. However, this is not a guaranteed service and can miss data occasionally.

You can still make a backup of your data if you plug the phone into your computer. Open iTunes and the iPhone should show up. Make a backup of your phone from there.

The AT&T store will not allow you to get a replacement for free, unless you have an accidental damage plan like AppleCare. If you do not have a plan like this, you'll have to purchase a new phone for a replacement. You can also see what an Apple store can do for you (apple.com/retail).

Depending on your warranty you may or may not have to purchase a new one, but there's no fixing it, putting in rice was your best bet, the only other thing you could do is take it apart and carefully dry the components with a special cloth like the one you get from the eye doctor, but it's probably way too late for that. As far as backing up your pictures, just plug it into the computer then go to where your hard-drives or flash-drives pop up and you should see your device double click on it and you will see a folder called DCIM that folder has all your pictures in it, for contacts if you can still connect to iTunes then you should be able to back your contacts up.

If it's water damaged, try putting it in rice. My ipod went through the washer & dryer and works almost perfectly now that i put it in rice. The rice soaks up the moisture.

  • Water damaged iphone (insurance claim)? I filed a claim with Asurion through verizon, I was required to pay 169$ for a replacement phone. the problem is that troubles me is that the only problem with the phone is that after it dropped in the water, the screen has a drip mark that won't go away, it won't turn off and there are some tones that don't play.other than that it works fine. what I'm asking is if the claim is still legitamate. It's still noticeable damage, but is it claim worthy noticeable damage?
  • Water damaged IPhone 4s. Is there hope? Today I idiotically fell into a pool with my iPhone in my pocket. It was submerged for about three seconds and afterward there was no display but it would still vibrate at messages and calls. I shook the water out of it immediately but I couldn't get it in rice for about 20 mins. I took out thr sim card and managed to turn off my phone and I'll let it sit in the rice for 24-48 hours. Is this just a lost cause or is there actually hope in me reviving my "child"
