What uses data on an iPhone? - 2

I understand that certain things on an iPhone use internet data, such as Facebook, Snapchat, email etc. But I'm a bit in the dark about when those things don't use data. Do they use any data when closed? Minimised? Or how about if I have, for instance my email or snapchat open but am not sending or receiving anything, does that use data then? I just want to be clear so I don't go over my data limit.

If it's on your phone odds are it's using even a little bit of data. Is your inbox up-to-date when you open your mail? Does it ding to tell a new email is there? Does a friend reply to a FB post of yours (you don't have it opened) and you still get an alert? Play any games that you share your score with friends? Yeah, it's using. You have apps running in the background--basically they are 'on' even if you have them 'off'.
iPhones use more data than any other. We're data hogs.

Bottom line, use Wi-Fi as often as possible to stay under your data limit--preferably a secure home setup for important critical stuff, but hit public Wi-Fi for all that fun junky stuff. Faster and if Wi-Fi is on your data plan is not. Best luck.

Does that mean that is the day my data will be reset? Also, what uses up data?
