What uses data on an iPhone?
So I just got my iPhone, and I have a 1GB Family Share Plan with my dad. He said to be careful about going over the data limit, or Verizon would end up charging us extra… So what uses up the data on the phone? I know that if I'm connected to wi-fi it won't be affected, but if I go on Safari or YouTube using 4G, how much will it take? Can someone tell me what exactly effects the phone's data usage?

One YouTube video can take anywhere between 5mb-100+mob depending in the quality and length
For safari… One web page may only take 15kb to load… But another may take 100+mb to load… Depends on what the page has… How many images, the quality of images… Etc
As for other things… Anything that may give you notifications… Email app, Facebook… Etc, even when you are not using them thy run background checks… But these checks usually never exceed over 2mb a day… But sometimes something goes wrong and it just keeps checking
Anything done using 3G will use data.
- When does data for a iphone from Verizon reset? And what uses up data? I just got an iPhone and I'm getting messages that say that the "usage reset date" is 10/10. Does that mean that is the day my data will be reset? Also, what uses up data? All I've been doing since I got my iPhone is texting and looking at a few things on the internet but I'm always connected to my Wi-Fi.
- What uses up the GB of data on my iPhone 5s? In my deal it says I have 1gb of data browsing, what uses that up?! If I had no Wi-Fi and wanted to go on snapchat or Instagram would that use up data? Also is 1GB enough?

I obviously have to cut back but I don't wanna just turn off my phone and keep it off for 3 weeks. I use FaceBook, YouTube, Tumblr, Chrome, a web proxy, iFunny, and I think that's all the APPS I use. I also listen to music on my iPhone, do I have to stop using that as well?

Do they use any data when closed? Minimised? Or how about if I have, for instance my email or snapchat open but am not sending or receiving anything, does that use data then? I just want to be clear so I don't go over my data limit.
