What will be the custom duty on an mobile phone (Iphone) being bought from Canada?

1) I'm planing to buy a Iphone 5 from Canada, a friend of mine will purchase it and send me via
courier or some means. What will be the custom duty to be paid on that.

2)What will be the total cost of the handset including postage charges if its $199 USD in Canada

Any electronic item imported in India exceeding cost of Rs 2000 is subject to heavy duty and penalty under Customs Act 1962. Resultantly your landed cost of iphone will be higher than a brand new iphone available in India. Secondly, if you will purchase iphone from india or in your own country it is subject to repair and replacement. If you import and anything goes wrong with your phone no service from iphone authorized service centers will be extended to you. As such, my advice would be not to go for import of the phone.
