When I plug my iPhone 4 into my laptop it says USB device not recognized

So I've had my iPhone 4 for quite a bit now, and it's getting a bit old but before I get a new phone I want to save all the pictures on my camera roll. I plugged my iPhone 4 into my laptop and it worked fine, I was half way through my photos until I moved my laptop and it stopped charging. I plugged the iPhone in and out and all it said was "USB device not recognized." I got my brothers iPod and plugged it into my laptop and everything worked, so it's not the chords… Does anyone know what I can do?

At this point, I think it's a good idea to run a virus/malware scan on the PC with whatever antivirus software you have installed.

Also, if you have not already, I would try deleting the USB controllers and restarting again, now that the Windows Updates have installed. Keep in mind, you might even want to download those drivers directly from your PC's manufacturer support site as well, if they don't automatically install when you restart after deleting them.

Finally, take a look at the thread I have linked below. The first reply is pretty similar to the one mentioned above in this thread, but there are also some other really good steps listed there as well. So take a look at the linked thread and see if that helps at all.

I had the problem also with iPad but it was recognized just not in iTunes. I re-installed the driver and now the iPad is fine. Since my computer doesn't even see recognize the iPhone I can't re-install the driver. I'm sure its possible but don't know how. Have searched all over and nothing is working - any suggestions?

Whenever i plug my usb cable into the computer and then my 3 generartion iphone it just says that it's not recognized and that it has malfuctioned and the only way to fix it is to replace it? Any help would be greatly apreciated it still charges but doesn't show in itunes. And every 10-20 seconds it makes that noise when you plug in your phone and sometimes when you disconnect
