When you turn your old iphone into an ipod touch do you still have to pay monthly?

No, because you "shut off" the phone service. You will still be able to use the phone, however, you will not be able to make calls or text on a plan for that phne. So no.

It will work just fine as an ipod without a sim in it, but why not do as I did and get a 'pay as you go' SIM card for it? If you get the card on a different network then there's a chance that if coverage on one is bad, the other might work. You can still use it to make an occasional call or text if you need to

If you don't make phone calls with it, there's no need to pay monthly.
