Where are the normal pics when HDR is on?

I have an iPhone 4s and have HDR on and to save the normal picture and can't figure out how to see the normal picture. Where does the camera store these?

I don't think a phone keeps the originals, the images are several exposure blended into one. The resulting tone mapped image is the only one that's saved.

To do HDR properly and keep the originals, you'd need to take 3 or more bracketed exposures. You need a real camera for that, and you'd need to use software to do the exposure blending and tone mapping.

I use the iPhone 6 plus and it saves both automatically. When you play back the picture, the HDR shot will have "HDR" written above it, and if you then swipe back one, you'll see the non-HDR shot. This also worked on the few times I used the camera on my iPad.

You say you're keeping the normal picture - presumably with the "Keep normal photo" option checked in settings? Make sure that's on.

  • Why is my iPhone 4 still taking HDR photos when I turned HDR option OFF? I selected "turn HDR OFF" after selecting "options" on my camera screen. I also turn off the option in my settings that says " save normal photo in addition of HDR photo" BUT my iPhone is still taking HDR pics… So frustrating! Can someone help please?
