Which DSLR camera is good under 600?

Hey all I'm new to dslr cameras and I'm thinking about buying one since I've been taking up all the space on my iPhone lol. I love photography. Especially taking pictures of cars and people. What would you guys recommend?

Yes there are.

If you take a look on the Nikon, Canon, Pentax and Sony websites, you will see entry level cameras that cost under $500 with a lens.

The standard 18-555m lens is just right., It covers wide angle landscapes, group shots, full body shots and portraits.

Such a camera and lens will keep a new photographer busy for a few years, while the learn the fundamentals of photography and how to use a fully adjustable camera.

Once you have viewed all the cameras within your budget, spend some time on DP Review reading the professional reviews of each camera. Take good notes because once you commit to a specific brand, you will be using it for the next decade or so, since the cost of switching brands is just too much for most of us to spend on a hobby.

You can further refine your choices by visiting DXOmark.com and while there, compare the cameras sensor performance.

After you have done this much research, your chances of picking the right camera for you and your needs is going to be much better than trying to decide how to spend $600 based upon suggestions made by complete strangers, strangers who may or may not have the necessary skills and experience to give you a good recommendation.

Take your time.

It is not unusual for a person to take three to six months doing research before deciding on a specific camera system and even then, some of us pick the wrong one

You need to consider not only the initial cost of the first camera and lens, but the array of lenses and accessories that can be purchased from the maker of the system and any possible upgrades you may want to consider in the future (like adding a full frame camera to your system which was based upon the original, entry level camera that has a cropped sensor.

I suggest giving serious consideration to the Pentax K-50 which is $546.95 at B&H - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/...ovideo.com

The Pentax K-50 is weather-sealed which means its safe to use in a light rain or in very dusty conditions. No other DSLR in this price range has this feature.

The Pentax K-50 has a pentaprism which is more expensive to manufacture but gives you a much brighter viewfinder. This makes composing easier in low-light and should you use manual focus the brighter viewfinder helps there as well. No other DSLR in this price range has this feature.

The Pentax K-50 has a focusing motor in the camera body so any Pentax auto focus lens ever made can be used and will auto focus. No other DSLR in this price range has that feature. The Nikon D7100 has this feature but its 2-1/2 times more expensive than the K-50.

The Pentax K-50 has the Pentax version of image stabilization in the camera body so any lens used becomes a stabilized lens. Canon and Nikon have their respective versions of image stabilization in some but not all of their lenses so you pay for it again and again.

The Pentax K-50 uses the "K" lens mount first introduced in 1975 so any Pentax "K" mount lens ever made - manual focus or auto focus - can be used although there are some limitations. Only Nikon has kept the same lens mount longer.

All DSLRs from the major brands such as: Canon, Nikon, Sony, Pentax, are good. All of them make entry level models which are close to your budget.

Another nod to the Pentax K-50. Small, compact (for a DSLR) which means it'll feel better in your, I assume, small hands. Plus it's the only one in your price range that is water resistant and without question offers the most features for the price without sacrificing any quality. Many of the Pentax lenses are weather resistant too allowing you take pictures at sorts of places in conditions that Canon and Nikon users can't.
