Will an iphone microphone work on a dslr camera?
I have a canon 600d and i need to get a mic, will an iphone mic like the iRig work on my camera? If not what microphone should i get? I don't want an expensive one cause i won't be using it a lot it's just for a school project.
No, Here's why
The 600D's headphone jack is stereo in. The mics that work on it will have one or two rings around them.
The first 2 rings on the iPhone are for stereo output.
The iRig has a 3rd ring for mono input that only works in phones and very few other devices.
So you would not get any sound through the iRig.
I think I may have made that more confusing, but anyway, no it won't work.
You can however record the audio on the iPhone and then put the two together when you edit it.

A slate might make it easier (i usually just let the audio run on both and clap my hands at some point before action)
It's incompatible.
If you are going for a cheap mic, just use the mic on the camera - it is going to work just as well as an iPhone mic.
But if you need a remote mic, one of the most popular "cheap" wired mics would be the Audio-Technica ATR-3350.
