Which is more accurate a mirror or camera? - 1

Hi! I'm a 15 year old boy and when I look in the mirror I look pretty good. Today I recorded my face with the iPhone 4 camera and I looked really horrible. (X I laughed at how ugly I looked in the recording but now I'm worried. Is that how others see me or is the mirror more how other people see me?

A camera. Whenever I get semi permanent makeup done she uses a mirror and a camera to make sure everything looks right. A camera is more accurate.

Your mental image of how you look is derived from your makeup mirror - shaving mirror. The size relationships of your facial features, nose, ears etc. Is a function of perspective. You are comfortable with this view. The camera can duplicate this view (perspective) but only if the power of the lens (focal length) and distance, camera to subject is carefully selected. Likely the camera was too close and the lens too short. The result will be facial distortion. The nose will reproduce a tad too big and the ears a mite too small. These can be microscopic distortions but enough to cause you to said I don't look good. A skilled photographer can make all the difference.
