Which one of these sentences is correct?

IPhone has never been number one or iPhone had never been number one?

Added (1). Here's the context: I'm trying to say iPhone [.] never been the number one for me to look for when buying a new mobile phone.

They each express a meaning. What meaning are you looking to express?

IPhone has never been number one.

Both are correct but in different contexts.

Depends on the context. If you're saying it like "Iphone had never been number one, but now it is." or if you're just making the statement "iPhone has never been number one.". The second sentence implies that while it had never been number one before, now it is. First sentence is just declaring that it hasn't and still isn't.
