Who generally is in charge of throwing graduation parties?

My dad makes pretty darn good money, but he's a low key kind of person and he isn't really "in tune" with the way things work. Like he thinks I should have my senior portrait this year taken by my younger sister using her iPhone. :|

So who generally throws graduation parties? Is it up to the graduate him or herself to coordinate the whole event, or do parents tend to take care of it? Out of all the friends I've seen graduate, only one hasn't had a party, and all the rest had their parents plan it out. These were all low key events, but a lot of fun, because it was a special time all of us shared with each of my friends who graduated. I don't see any need for a big fancy gathering, but considering my dad doesn't even like me having birthday parties, do you think he'll step up to the plate and plan me a graduation party next year? Should I ask him?

For high school graduation, it's usually the parents who plan & host it.

Talk to your dad about it now & tell him you'd like to have some friends over to celebrate after graduation next year. Have an idea of what you'd like before you talk to him - pizza, submarine sandwiches or grilling hot dogs are all fairly low cost food choices. If he realizes you're not expecting for him to spend a lot of money, he may be more receptive.

Having your sister take your graduation photo with her iPhone is not acceptable, btw.

  • Why didn't I get a graduation gift? So I promoted from 8th grade, and I know I may sound selfish, or spoiled, but honestly i just don't know why. I see all these pictures on instagram showing themselves with flowers, new iphone, presents, money. All I got was good job… I don't understand, not even a card. For sixth grade promotion I didn't get anything either, just getting a good job. Did I do something wrong?
  • What should i ask for for 8th grade graduation? I already have a tablet/ipad, computer, xbox, wii. I want an iphone but i don't know if my parents will get me one. I wanted a trampoline but my mom said absolutely not. So any ideas?
  • What should I ask as a graduation gift? I just graduated from university and my father wants go buy me a graduation gift up to 500 dollars. There's nothing I really need right, except from money but he says he really wants to buy me a gift. I need a phone so I thought I'd ask for an iphone because I never had one, but a phone is something that I won't have in 10 years. What would be a good gift to ask that would last for life?
  • Should I have a graduation party? Or buy an iPhone 5s? I mean having a party will cost the same thing as buying an iPhone. I need a phone but I also feel guilty that I don't really want a graduation party should I have a party? Or an iPhone?
