Why are Filipino's so desperate to grab foreigners money?

Well obviously they are poor. But then again, there are so many other countries in the world with poor people. I've travelled around South East Asia and I've been to countries with even poorer people than the Philippines (for example Laos).In the Philippines, you see some people with nice smartphones like an iphone, or even tablets like ipads etc and they are still begging you for money or the girls are trying to make you their husband so you can help them out financially. I just think, why are you asking me for money 'to pay your bills' or whatever when you can afford a nice phone and other luxuries!

In other poor countries you can get that a bit but even in POORER countries it isn't as bad. In Laos, people are so happy yet so poor and they don't beg from you like many filipinos do. They would never be able to afford an iphone and yet they still aren't begging. I know I'm comparing Laos to the Philippines but that was just a general example. I've visited other countries in SEA too such as Cambodia, Vietnam, and I've also been to Bangladesh, India and a few other places in Asia.

Not all filipinos are 'desperate to grab' foreigners' money. But yeah, there are quite a lot who would at the opportunity. The philippines has a conflicted history and culture and a lot of its citizens seem to have been caught up in a make-believe world where everything is rosy when in fact it's not. So you encounter a lot of pinoys who are desperate to get their hands on anything but aren't desperate enough to achieve things on their own.
i feel fortunate that my parents taught me to find happiness in accomplishing things on my own. I may not be able to say the same for a lot of my countrymen, but i'm sure not all of us are like what you generalized. It also depends on the type of people you get yourself mixed up with. And i'm sure you have a fair idea of that.

There are just bad people in this world… Laos is new to tourism while philippines is more accustomed to "joe" and their mindset has changed that westerner are source of money… Poverty and poor education are still the main reason, and talking about philippines being richer, you should also notice that the wealth gap is higher than anywhere else in asia and that means the poor are extremely poorer than these ipad owner
