Why are my Mac text replacements messed up?

Okay, so at one point, I had changed the text replacement on my iPhone to use Emoji symbols. Well, that became old very quickly, so I removed them from my phone. But I noticed on my iMac that the text replacements had somehow synced over. So for instance, whenever I typed. The Emoji smiley would pop up. I went into System Preferences > Keyboard > Text, and there were none there. It was somehow doing it by default. I added new text replacement [i.e.: :) = :) and. = :( ] so they at least are replaced with themselves. But as soon as I remove those, it reverts right back to the Emoji replacement.

Since I have no idea what a "text replacement" is, I searched at Wikipedia, and found three types…

Also, be sure to test this issue in TexEdit. If TextEdit has no "Emoji mojo", it is narrowed down to the app you used.
