Why can't Apple count?

Apple have made the iPhone, iPhone 2, iPhone 3, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPhone 6+, iPhone 6S, iPhone 7, iPhone 7+, iPhone 8, iPhone 8+ then iPhone X (X is pronounced 10 like the Roman numeral) it goes 7,8,9,10 not 7,8, ooh let's just miss 9, 10. Can Apple not count?

Windows did a similar method. They went right from Windows 8 to Windows 10.

but, with Apple, it's iPhone X for the tenth anniversary of the first iPhone, back in 2007. So there's a method for it.

There was never an "iPhone 2" or "iPhone 3" & you missed the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 5c, iPhone 6s Plus & iPhone SE

There was the
iPhone
iPhone 3G
iPhone 3GS
iPhone 4
iPhone 4s
iPhone 5
iPhone 5c
iPhone 5s
iPhone 6
iPhone 6 Plus
iPhone SE
iPhone 7
iPhone 7 Plus
iPhone 8
iPhone 8 Plus
iPhone X

& as has been mentioned it references the 10th anniversary of the iPhone not the 10th model in the lineage.

Also has been mentioned Microsoft did something similar for their Windows OS, going from 8 to 10, skipping 9 (seen as 'catching up' to Apple's macOS 10 (OS X at the time))
Samsung did the same with their Galaxy Note line, going from 5 to 7, skipping 6 (though the 7 had its issues so it ended up being more like going from 5 to 8))

Apple skipped the iPhone 9 because it was their 10th anniversary, so they wanted to release the iPhone X instead to celebrate.

There was no Windows 9.

Maybe Apple is simply copying Microsoft.

There was no Windows 9.

Not windows 8
