Why can't I listen to my music on my iphone?

I have an iPhone 6s. I want to be able to listen to my music but lately I haven't been able to. It says that I need to buy Apple Music. I have had some of my music downloaded from my laptop and from other devices. How can I listen my music without buying Apple Music?

Can't you open you files with iTunes, Amazon Music, Google Play Music, or a podcast app?

I don't know if you want to listen to it offline or if it matters to you but, if you don't care if it's offline or not, then get the app YouTube and listen to music on there! If your trying to do it offline then you can get Spotify on your phone and get a premium account and I think it's like $10 a month to listen and download as many songs as you want!
