Why can't I move music to my iPhone4 anymore?

So, recently I've run into a problem with my iPhone.

Usually I just plug it into my PC using the charger to USB cable it came with and drag and drop music in iTune from the library into the tab on the left that says my phone's name.

BUT a few days ago i tried to do it and was unable to. When I dragged the music over my phone's tab the cursor turned into a red circle with a red line through it.

I'm updated to the most recent software and can't think of any reason why this is happening. Also, I don't want to sync my phone to iTunes. I tried it when I first got it and it took a hefty portion of my storage space for nothing (labeling it "Other") so that isn't an option I want to test again.

Any help is appreciated.

The only thing I can think of is that you set iTunes to automatically sync to your iPhone as soon as its connected. Click on your iPhones name in iTunes and check the box that's "Manually manage music and videos" that's the only thing I can think of so I hope I helped. Or maybe your memory on your iPhone is completely full but I doubt it's that

The only time you get a red circle is when the music is not able to be moved.
Either it is "grey" rather than black on the screen, which means it isn't really there. Either not downloaded all the way or downloaded illegally.
OR
You are trying to transfer from a playlist rather than the library. You can only copy music from the source, the main library. This is the most like cause of your current problem.

Since you have an iPhone, I can assure you every time your phone updates it is changing, possibly increasing the size of the "other" on your phone.
You can't add music without syncing. If you add music all the time, you have synced before. It is unavoidable.

As for the "other" which you noticed when you started your iTunes account and your iPhone.
"Other" is the program that makes your phone work. If it is not updated, your phone will stop working.
IPod owners that refuse to update the "other" on their iPod soon discover the iPod will not work.

  • WHY CAN'T I WATCH VIDEOS ON MY IPHONE, I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE I downloaded the new YouTube app from google. On my old iPod touch the videos would load fine but on my new iPhone they won't even play 10 seconds before it freezes and won't play! I reload the video and app and it still won't play, I even deleted it and installed it 10 times and still the same problem! • Why can't I click and drag music onto my iphone anymore? I just updated some software, and now my iTunes library is just songs I purchased through iTunes. After adding songs I legally downloaded else where and opened with iTunes, I can no longer just drag and drop the songs onto the "iPhone" tab. Why? Any solutions would be great. Leaving for a 20 hour road trip by myself and can't let iTunes erase my music first…
  • Reverse sync iPhone4 music to iTunes on Windows 8? I have a new computer and I need to take my music library that is currently on my iPhone 4 and transfer it to my new iTunes on Windows 8. All purchases have been transferred but how do I transfer the other music that was acquired differently? I can't seem to be able to access the hidden music folders contained in my iPhone. Any free software? Other ways of transferring these files?
