Why can't I receive the update for iOS7?

So I wanted to update my software to the iOS 7. I've been using iPhones for years since the iPhone 3gs. I now have the iPhone 5.So I know they work. But when I go into my Settings and then go into Software Update, it just shows "Checking for Update." The update never comes up. I've read some things about this simliar problem and people were saying its because everyone and their momma is trying to download it too causing Apple's server to slow down. But my wife was able to download and she was right next to me! I've even erased a few apps, deleted pictures, message threads, call history, restarted my phone like 5 times by holding down on the lock and home button at the sametime and powered it down normally and nothing works!

Apple, just like all manufacturers, releases the update in in phases based on your IMEI and ESN… Deal with it…

make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi ONLY… If you don't have it by Friday tonight, call apple or do a factory restoral on Itunes… And retry…

if you get your nickers to much in a bunch, you might be able to have kids in the future! All you will have iOS7 to blame

I just heard that iOS 7 is available for iPhone 4/S, and when you go to settings-General- Software update it shows my iOS is up to date which is 6.1.3… And I just wanted to know why or is it really supported for the iphone4 I know that it lags cause iPhone 4 has a A4 chip not like the 4S which has a A5 chip…
