Why can't I stop cuddling with my iPhone?

It all started with keeping my iPhone close to my pillow because I was afraid I wouldn't hear my alarm go off to wake me up for college, then after a while when I would turn to the other side of the bed I'd grab my phone and put it close to the other side of my pillow, basically wherever I turned in my bed my iPhone would come with me, but now the last 6 months I hold it close to me, literally cradling it in my arms as if it's my baby or partner, and I feel so anxious if I don't do this, I tried a lot of times to keep it on my bedside or somewhere else in the room but I can't do it, I'm a 20 year old male, is this normal?

Only you can decide if this fits into your definition of normal. However, having such a strong attachment to your iPhone is obviously causing anxiety and therefore this is detrimental to your overall mental and emotional well-being. Think back to when you first became aware of this strong attachment, what was the trigger? Perhaps this attachment is filing a void for you so look at the relationships in your life. Have they changed or been lost in some way? Given the impact this behavior is having on your life, it would be good for you to speak with professional, where you can learn important coping strategies and come to more of an understanding about yourself. Reach out to family and friends, get their love and support so you do not feel alone. This behavior is not bringing you joy so the time has come to take care of YOU.
