Why can't I use an old Verizon iPhone 5s on straighttalk?
My phone recently broke so I wanna use my girlfriend s old iPhone 5s but when I check to see if its compatible straight talk says its isn't. I don't understand why?
I don't know
The phone companies make them incompadable so that you can't use other phones with their carriers, they do this just to make money by getting you to buy a new phone or pay to get it unlocked.
At one time all Verizon phones were factory unlocked. That iPhone might be from a different time. Call Verizon to see. If it's not unlocked they have to unlock it by law.
Straighttalk is a rip off. I used them for years and then they started cutting me off while claiming that I was roaming in Mexico. Nowhere near there either. They use the ATT network, so does Cricket, but Cricket has much better deals. Check compatibility with them.
Straight Talk uses T-Mobile network which is gsm. Verizon uses cdma. The two are incompatible.
You need a different phone.

If the phone was originally assigned to Verizon then it's simm card is registered to Verizon. Change the simm card and use a Straighttalk simm card or register the new, unregistered simm card by using a "time add" card of your choice.
Smart talk has a "bring your own phone" kit that gives you a new simm card, or you can take one out of an old phone.
- Verizon iPhone 4 to StraightTalk? I currently have service with StraightTalk, but I'm trading my phone with someone who has an iPhone 4 with Verizon. Would I be able to unlock her phone to use with StraightTalk? I've been TOLD that Verizon will only allow you to unlock their phones for international use only. & I've also been told that if the Verizon phone is unlocked, I still won't be able to use it with another carrier. Can anyone clear this up for me?
- Switching number from Verizon to Straighttalk AT&T. How to keep my old number? Right now, I have a Verizon noncontract phone. I'm buying an iPhone 4 from a friend which is on the Straighttalk AT&T micro sim plan. I'm moving to the Straighttalk AT&T plan and need to know how to get my number changed over and where to get a new micro SIM card from.
- Straighttalk iPhone SIM activation for already Straighttalk activated phone? It says I need a $45 service plan card to activate the SIM card, but is there a way to do it without? My phone has $45 service plan active right now, my SIM card is just malfunctioning, so I need a new one. Or do I have to do it when I refill, no other option?
- Is it possible for me to change my Iphone 5 from Straighttalk to Verizon? It's a prepaid Iphone but the thing is that where I live the Straighttalk company doesn't have much coverage because of the fact that it's ran by AT&T but I was wondering if there was a possible way to change my Iphone to another phone company that is prepaid like Verizon or Boost Mobile.
