Why do i only receive pic msgs when my cellular data is on?

I have an iphone 4s from verizon and for some reason i only receive group msgs and pic msgs when my cellular data is on. I have limited, but when my Wi-Fi is on (most of the time) i never get pic msgs why?

On ANY wireless carrier… A MMS is a pic message… It requires the customer to have a text plan AND a data plan… Why? The Text APN (access point network) only can hold 160 characters, or 160b… If you attach a pic to it, it become over 1kb, or 1000b… And the Text APN can't send it or receive it… So what do carriers do?---they break it up… The text part goes through the text APN and the pic or attachment goes through the Data APN… Your friend's carrier gets it, put it back together and send it to their phone

if a customer has no data plan, or has a data block, or turns off cellular data and Wi-Fi on, then the Data APN is shut off for them… This means the customer can't get MMS messages… They can cry and complain all they want… Not even God himself can make it happen… The customer MUST get a data plan, have cellular data ON and Wi-Fi OFF… Then and ONLY then can the customer get MMS…

Even though MMS needs the data plan to have the data APN on, it never charges for data usage. It always charges as a text message

Not true I have data block on my service and have to turn on cellular data to get mms messages.

Guest can you tell us the carrier of your phone?
Because some carriers can block Data ports with out blocking the MMS data port.

  • Why don't I receive messages unless my cellular data is on? I got this iPhone 3 months ago. It's the 5th one. This constant problem is that sometimes I don't get messages unless my Cellular data is turned on. I need to fix this cause its really annoying. Like for example 10 ppl texted me on Christmas Day saying merry Christmas. On January 4 I turned on cellular data while in my car & then I got them all! And it's crazy because It had the date of Christmas & the exact time.
  • Why don't I receive alerts or a notification when I receive a text and I already checked my settings? I adjusted my setting and even put the ringer and notifications on and put the volume and ringer on and I receive no alert, no pop up, alert or notification when someone texts me. Why? This is the iPhone X! I went to the cell phone/ carrier store and they didn't help me. They said to go to the apple store or check the settings. I already adjusted the settings. So what do I do now?
