Why do my pictures take up so much space on my iPhone? - 1
I'm almost out of storage because my photos take up so much space on my phone (iphone 4s). They're mostly screenshots so it's probably not because of the camera's resolution. I only have 580 pictures/videos and it takes up 3.1 GB of space. My dad has 534 pictures/videos (pretty close to mine, right?) on his iphone 4 and that takes 980 MB. Is it because I have a 4S and he has a 4? I don't know I just don't think that 580 pictures is supposed to take up 3.1 GB of space.
So with about 580 pics for 3.1GB, that means they're about 6MB each. It could be the pictures you have a busier. A plain white pic is MUCH smaller than a pic of a beautiful mosaic.
Does your dad have mostly screenshots? If not, he could be taking pics with his camera at a lower resolution. By the way, according to my research, an iPhone's screen is 1138x640 which is less than a megapixel, so it is sort of strange. Check your videos too. Maybe you have a few stragglers of some long clips that are taking up like 200MB or something. Check some individual pictures and see their individual sizes. If they're about 3MB on average, then that makes sense. If they're not or much lower, then you must have a large video or something.
File types and file compression also has an impact. I don't own an iPhone so I'm not too sure on their features but (if you didn't know) pictures (as well as other files) have different formats that can have different compression sizes. Basically, you lose some quality for some space. The popular.jpg is "lossy" or in other words, you lose some quality but they're popular because they're relatively small in size, compared to a.bmp, which may easily be 20MB (depending). Anyways, what are you pics being saved as? I heard they use.png, which are nice because they don't lose much quality (in fact I love png's) but they are larger than jpgs.
You could always transfer off those pics from the phone to your computer or some online storage. Never understood why a lot of people have this issue. I have a little over 2000 pics on my iPhone 5 (& before that 4) & it only takes 219MB.
- Why does my small amount of photos take up so much space? On my iPhone 7, I have only 76 pictures/videos. When I click manage storage, it says that they take up 1.3 gb of space, while my friends have hundreds of photos but when they click manage storage, it only takes up a couple hundred mb. Why do the photos take up so much space on my phone or how can I fix this problem?
- Why does my Messages app on my iPhone take up so much space? I have an iPhone 5 on iOS 7. I've deleted all except 3 of my messages, yet it is taking up 1.3 GB of my phone's space. Why is it taking up so much space and how do I fix it?
- Why does my iphone say my photos take up so much space? I have only like 300 photos in my iphone and it still says that it takes up 4GB and its frustrating since i've already deleted over 700 photos and my phone still does indicate much change of my storage space. Could it be that there's some hidden location all my photos have been saved or something?
- Why does Messages on my iPhone take up so much space? I have a 16GB phone and Messages takes up 6.2GB. Yes. 6.2GB in usage. I currently have no messages because I always delete. Could someone help me? I do use iMessages
