Why do people judge by appearances?

I don't consider my family rich but I guess you can say we live on the best side of the city in the nicest homes on a golf course. I drive a very old car and don't really dress up in name brands like other kids or have an Iphone like other people. When people come to my home they can't believe I live there. Its like they expect me to come from a poor family. Why?

Your appearance is the first and easiest aspect about you available to people for judgment.

And human beings are very lazy so their first impressions stick until proven wrong.

If you look like a bum, people will take you to live like one. Duh! Spend some money and spruce up a bit.

Because people judge you by it, who knows

Humans are creatures that judge by looks and the things others own. I'm a pansexual female and i'm often judged or look at as a freak. Than people see that I have a family that breathes, a father that loves me a step mother that freaks out on me and three dogs. An average family.
don't change just bc others tell you to.
some people just suck.

Where I live it's the wealthiest that tend to dress the worst. One scan of the tabloids will tell you that the wildly successful of Hollywood are the ones that run around in torn jeans and hoodies.

It is human nature, what else can someone use at a first time meeting.

Why don't you tell them bro.

Because by the appereance you can see where you come from and what kind of human you are.

We're very judgmental creatures whether we deny it or not.

I admit it's fun to have them fooled.
Be glad they like you for who you are without the frosting.

Most wealthy people see no need to impress others, have exceeded the point of spending unnecessary funds on things you can get for less, and clearly see expensive brands as mere people attempting to become rich at their expense.

They don't bother to get to know you and judge your character, so they judge your looks.

People judge others by appearance because that is the first thing they notice.

Humans are shallow creatures

It's not so much a function of how you dress as much as it is a function of how you conduct yourself. People who are advantaged in society have a tendency to put on airs of entitlement. Because you remain humble people are surprised when they find out you come from means just as equal if not superior to theirs. This is a very pleasant surprise to have.

Because if you dress poorly then society will perceive you as poor. This is why I'm grateful I was not born a Mexican/Mestizo.

That's life son
