Why do pictures on iPhone 3gs look sharper than on other 3 megapixel cameras?
I was just wondering, because in the past for taking social networking photos I had been using an 8 megapixel Kodak standalone camera and the quality is comparable despite some minor differences in detail. That is to be expected of course, but the camera model is from 2007. However, I have had a phone for a couple years now which is a Samsung (none smart phone) that had a qwerty keyboard. And it's next to impossible to distinguish any clarity from the photos. Why? Does some difference exist within the hardware that would allow one 3mp camera to look better than the other?
People are unaware its not all about the pixels. Lens plays a big part on picture quality and the sensor analyzing the picture your taking takes a big role.
Yeah, as the other person said, it's not just about the pixels. And that's what Apple has always said. You could have a 0824352375082357MGP camera, but without the right lens and all the other good stuff, it's junk
Cameras of phones have the advantage of using a very small LCD to display their pictures. The small LCD size naturally hides errors. Then again, if you don't what you are doing exactly, I can only surmise that you went too far with the Kodak while expecting too much from it and simply got lucky with the iPhone most of the time.
When comparing to your KODAK did you set the camera to maximum resolution?
Did you use a small f/stop, i.e. F/11, f/16, f/22?
Your 8mp Kodak should outshine the stupid phone cameras 10:1!
