Why do suburban kids think they have hard lives?

I grew up in a bad community (east hastings) and had to deal with real problems like gang violence and parental neglect/abuse long story short I had a rough life and had to deal with being beaten and having gang fights and got mixed up with really bad people. So it really makes me sick to my stomach when these *** suburban kids cut themselves when they don't get the right color iphone or break up with their boyfriend or girlfriend and say they have hard lives. So my question is why do they do those types of things, do they want pity or sympathy? Why do they want to make their lives difficult when they come from privileged backgrounds?

When people are used to lives of luxury and ease, the slightest let down seems devastating. I'll admit, I come from a fairly well off line, I've never had to deal with many of the problems you mentioned, but I have seen what some of my friends who are not so well off have gone through, as well as the very people you talk about that complain about such minor things that I completely understand your frustration.
