Why does apple make iPhones & iPhone s's? Why not just iPhone #?

Why does windows call it windows instead of doors?

The idea behind the iPhone 3GS was it was the same design as the iPhone 3G yet it had a faster processor. The "S" stood for speed. Same with the iPhone 4S although some say it stands for Siri. They didn't make a # change because it wasn't a major upgrade. Hope this helped!

The reason Apple releases some new iPhones as a number and an "S" is because it's basically the same design as the old phone with a few minor improvements.

For example, the iPhone 4S is nearly exactly the same in every way as the iPhone 4, except the iPhone 4S has Siri and a faster processor.

However, when Apple releases a new iPhone that is quite different in design from the precious model, then they will move up the number. The iPhone 4 was a completely different look from the iPhone 3GS, and the iPhone 5 is very different from the iPhone 4S.

That is why we don't know whether Apple will make minor improvements to the next iPhone or completely redesign it. So it's unknown whether it will be the iPhone 6 or the iPhone 5S.
