Why does my car stereo make a clicking sound when I charge my iPhone?

I just bought a certified preowned 2009 Mazda Mazda3 hatchback. Whenever I plug my charger into my iPhone while it's connected to the aux input I hear a repeating clicking sound through my speakers. The clicking gets faster and slightly higher in pitch as I push the accelerator. What's going on?

You have what's called a "ground loop". I've seen it on factory and aftermarket systems alike. If it's still under warranty, take it to the dealer. Let them do whatever it takes to fix it. If it's not, you can try re-grounding the headunit's factory ground wire directly to chassis versus in the wiring harness. If your Mazda has a factory upgraded audio system (bose for example), you can try re-grounding the amplifier directly to chassis as well.

  • Why there's a clicking sound on my iphone 6 home button? After the front screen protector was installed to my iphone 6 i hear a clicking sound when i half press the home button, i don't press it all the way down, just half press, i can hear a clicking sound. Why is that? Anyone please explain why.
  • Why does my PC make clicking/popping noises? It's not the speakers themselves, as it happens with headphones too. It seems like when the PC is heavily taxed, any audio playback will sometimes contain sporadic pop noises. It happens from a midi playback program, from iTunes, from Youtube videos - anything. I definitely notice an increase while I'm recording something. What can I do?
  • Why can't I connect my iPhone to my car stereo? I have an iPhone 5C and a Sony stereo. I have tried two lightning cables, but neither work. My phone will charge, but the device is not recognised according to the stereo. Also, I have tried an aux cable: it seems like the music played through that only comes through one speaker, therefore the sound is quiet and muffled! Could there be a problem with my phone or the stereo? Is there anything I can try to fix this?
  • What will 128 kbps sound like in a good car stereo? I have a huge iTunes library and I'm trying to fit all of my music onto my iPhone. I have a very nice car and an amazing stereo in it, and it sounds wonderful right now at 192 kbps. I'm satisfied with the sound at the moment. If I compress the music to 128 kbps, will there be an audible sound difference?
