Why does my iPhone 5 say 3G instead of 4g?
I recently got my iPhone 5 for Christmas, and it's just now the beginning of April. It's always said 3G, instead of 4g, which I thought was normal. I was with a couple of friends yesterday, and she had a white iPhone 5 just as me, except she had AT&T and hers said 4g. I have sprint. Is there a way to get 4g? Does it cost money to have 4g? Everywhere I have went with no Wi-Fi it has always said 3G, never 4g. I want 4g though!
No, You don't have to buy 4G. It depends how far are you from your carriers transmitter. Seems like AT&T has transmitter closer than Sprint.
Just a guess that they have signed up to a 4G plan and you have not. Why don't you ask them what plan they have.
Sprint does NOT have a very good network.AT&T's network far surpasses the network capabilities and features that Sprint has. Your friend, who has AT&T, has better service and 4G LTE in the area you were in, whereas, with Sprint, they don't have 4G LTE in the area you were in.
Unless you want to cancel your Sprint contract, you probably won't have 4G LTE for a while.
Always check with Sprint to see if 4G LTE is coming to your area.

Depends what is avaiable in your area with your carrier, if 4G is there it will switch to it automatically, if not it goes to 3G, and if not 3G it will go down to E, etc.
