Why does my music take up so much memory?
I have 275 songs. 1.8 gigs. Why do the songs take up almost 2 gigs? What ever happen to "1 gigabyte holds 1000 songs?" I have an iphone 4 synced with an iTunes account.
Sound quality has increased, causing music to take up more space.
"I have 275 songs. 1.8 gigs"
Song number is irrelevant - what matters is sound quality and length - neither of which were included in your question.
"What ever happen to "1 gigabyte holds 1000 songs?""
Where did you ever hear that? Even at a moderate bit-rate, you get about 1 minute of sound/mb, and that's conservative. At that rate, it's only 250 songs/GB at an average of 4 minutes/song.
Using the 4 minute song as an average, your 275 songs comes out to 1100 minutes, or 18.3 hours. Just to compare, I sorted my iPod music based on bit-rate and high-lighted 18 hours worth of the highest bit-rate and that came to a little over 1.6GB, so you're not that far off.
It depends on your music files size and format.
For example if your files is in mp3, then the size will be smaller but if its in WAV, then the size will be bigger.
Uncompressed audio format is the biggest.
For a detail info on how big is your single song, right click on the song and click Properties. You can find the info there.
To save up your storage space, try to convert all your music files to mp3 format. There are many free mp3 converter out there. Just google it up and you can find many.
Remember do not compress your audio files too small as the size shrink, so do the audio quality.
- Why is my music taking up so much memory? I have a 32GB iPhone 4S and I have about 550 songs. Those songs amount to 10GB. My dad has the same phone with te same amount of songs but only takes up 5GB. The lengths of the songs are roughly the same. Why is it that my music takes up more memory?
- Why does my photos on my Iphone take up so much memory? I had about 500 photos and it was 6.0GB, then i literally deleted all except 4 of my photos. So I have 4 photos and its 5.2 GB?! Please Help ME FIX THIS it takes up all my memory, by the way i have a 16GB IPhone 5, Thanks!
- Why does my music take up so much room on my iPhone? I've been recently frustrated with how little space my iPhone had left considering how much content I have on my phone (2200 songs at 17.9GB, 1200 pictures at 4.6GB, 29 apps at 3.02GB, etc.). I compared it to my sister's identical iPhone, which has much of the same content. However, her phone has 2100 songs at 8.8GB, 3700 at 3.4GB and 46 apps at 3.4GB. Much of her music was downloaded directly from my MacBook. Why is my phone so full while hers still hasn't reached half-capacity?
- Why does my iPhone have so little memory and uses so much? Littarally, I bought a 16gb iPhone 5s for £470 and after I set it up, it said 12gb capacity and 10.4 gb memory left, after 30 short songs, a few 20mb apps and around 10 3 min vids and 30 pics, 4gb is gone. What is this?
